Objectives : Antimicrobial activities were assayed through the hot water extracts from Cheongsangbangpungtang and its composition oriental medicines.
Methods : The author screened and isolated a Staphylococcus aureus from acne vulgaris patients. The optimum pH and temterature for the growth of the organism were in the range 7.0 and 37˚C, respectively.
Results : Scutellariae Radix, Platycodi Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Gardeniae Fructus, Forsythiae Fructus, Menthae Herba, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, Aurantii Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix that was more the size 10㎜ of inhibition zone among Cheongsangbangpungtang composition oriental medicines. Cheongsangbangpungtang showed inhibition zone of 14.29㎜.
Mic of extract from Cheongsangbangpungtang and its composition oriental medicines was 3-10㎕.
Antimicrobial activity of the Cheongsangbangpungtang extract was not destroyed by the heating at 121˚C for 15min and not affected by pH.
Conclusion : Cheongsangbangpungtang, Staphylococcus aureus
